Emma Heyes is an artist working with mixed media, predominantly using found images and image transfer techniques, watercolour and ink. Emma’s work is autobiographical and focuses on themes related to the maternal. Emma has an interest in documenting the beauty and fragility of (new) life, the relationship between mother and child, and the medical interventions that allow us to progress a pregnancy, deliver a baby safely or feed an infant within the first weeks of life.
Emma is based in Perth, Western Australia and is the mother of two children. She is a self-taught artist and has become increasingly interested in documenting her experience of motherhood through art following the birth of her first child.
